Collaborative research and bottom up approaches at the society-science nexus are increasingly recognized and used in the attempt to find sustainable solutions for complex and challenging issues like climate change adaptation, poverty and food insecurity. Little attention is thereby drawn to the collaboration between the main involved actors. Dysfunctional conflicts between the main involved actors, i.e. lo-cal stakeholders and project team members, may endanger the success of a collab-orative research project.
This case study analyzes conflict causes between local stakeholders and project team members that are involved in the collaborative research project Scale-N. The empirical case study identifies several conflict causes that in sum most likely have a significant negative effect on the project. This thesis reveals insights of a collabo-rative research project and contributes to the understanding of conflict experiences of the main involved actors.
Key words: collaborative research, conflict causes
